What is Young People in Leadership?
This programme has been developed to help encourage young people to engage in conversations at board level by teaching them skills, and giving them experience and knowledge, so they feel more confident when talking with their peers.
Currently, less than 3% of board members are under 30 years old. To contextualise this a little, 18 to 29 year olds make up around 13% of the population.
As such, under 30s are vastly under-represented on boards, with even fewer board members aged 25 and under.
Our programme is based on the following:
- Increase board diversity and promote excellent governance
- Prepare the young board member to contribute effectively to the board’s business agenda (supporting return on investment outcomes).
- Help the young board member to develop confidence and feel like they belong and add value to the board (supporting personal development outcomes).
- Investing in training and mentoring to ensure that any young person joining the board is best equipped for the role.
