Bourne Community Radio

Introduction

Bourne Community Radio set to launch in November 2024.

A new community radio station, supported by community music organisation soundLINCS, is set to launch in Bourne on Friday 8th November 2024.

Led by a group of volunteers, Bourne Community Radio will be airing community-focused shows, with local news and opinions, new emerging talent from Bourne, as well as promoting local events.

Located behind the Salvation Army Church in Bourne, the radio aims to uplift the mental health and wellbeing of its listeners through a wide range of programming – taking a true ‘something for everyone’ approach.

With a keen emphasis on putting mental health at the heart of the community, the station will provide a wealth of information about the local network of services supporting mental health and wellbeing.

One of the main aims of the station is to reduce isolation and loneliness and to build belonging through music, discussion and innovative community led content.

How it Started

The project was first suggested by UpBEAT! participant and Bourne resident, Tim, whose dream was to create a local radio station.

Tim’s infectious passion for community radio kick-started the project, which now has a growing team of volunteers at the helm. Since its creation, volunteers have attended soundLINCS workshops to learn how to programme and produce radio shows, alongside further assistance from the organisation.

CEO of soundLINCS, Eddy Mentzel stated: “Having undertaken a radio production degree at the University of Lincoln, I have a genuine enthusiasm for community radio. It has been a joy to work on this project and to watch the volunteers grow and develop.”

Commenting on the launch of the radio, Bourne Community Radio Chair and Presenter, Adrian Smith, said: “I’ve always had a passion for music and playing the tunes that I love and hopefully other people will love them too. We want this project to be very uplifting and inspirational, to really work, not just for Bourne, but for Lincolnshire as a whole.”
