What is Placetalk?
Placetalk is a programme delivered by Lincolnshire Community and Voluntary Service (LCVS), in the Mablethorpe, Theddlethorpe and Withern communities and is an opportunity for the local community to have a voice and take collective action to benefit themselves, their families and the whole community.
This programme has received Community Investment Funding which has been awarded to LCVS by the Theddlethorpe GDF Community Partnership.
The programme will gather over 1,000 conversations, in an informal and sometimes in-depth way, in various public spaces, to gather information of the challenges, experiences and positives in the communities of Mablethorpe, Theddlethorpe and Withern.
Placetalk Programme Goal
These conversations will identify themes which will then be fed into and discussed in the Placetalk Community Advisory Group, which is made up of equal numbers of professionals working in the area as well as members of the public.
It is used to encourage and empower local people to address the diverse nature and issues of neighbourhoods through the stories, experiences and phenomena that make each community unique, and connect into sources of support and additional resources to develop ideas and wishes for their community.
Questions will be asked such as:
- “What do you like about your community?”
- “What would you miss if it was no longer here?”
- “What would you like to see changed?
- “Do you see a way this could be changed?”
- “How do you think you could help with this?”
- “What do you hope to see in the future?”
By having these conversations and being heard it will empower residents and visitors to access asset-based community development through the Placetalk model and enable local people to develop projects and explore issues on their terms.
This will help community groups become more visible and connect them into community development networking, funding and training opportunities as well as making sure that the value of small community groups and start up groups is recognised, capacity is enhanced, and local ambition is shared more widely to raise aspiration and increase community cohesion.

Tea and Talk at Home Events
Do you live in Mablethorpe and surrounding areas? If so, our Tea and Talk at home events are ideal for those of you who lead a busy life and cannot come to our indoor and outdoor events, but would still like to have your say on the community you live in.
These sessions have been created so you can chat to us over a cup of tea and a biscuit from the comfort of your home about what matters in your area. And that's not all. As our way of saying thank you, you can choose claim a voucher to use at Greggs.
These 'at home' meetings will be done via Zoom and the information is provided below for each session. On the date and time for the session you want to join, use the sign-in credentials for that date/time. You can sign in to an existing Zoom account or join the meeting without the need to register if you do not have a Zoom account.
'Pop-up' and 'Tea and Talk' Events
We often have a number of 'pop-up' events in Mablethorpe so that you can come and have a chat with us about the community you live in and what matters to you.
These 'pop-up' events and are usually held in local supermarkets in Mablethorpe or on the promenade for example, and we sometimes have a market stall at Mablethorpe market. We also try and have a presence at local festivals such as the SO Festival and Sutton-on-Sea Carnival.
We hold a number of 'Tea and Talk' events throughout the year that are typically held in village halls in Theddlethorpe, Withern, Gayton-le-Marsh and Trusthorpe and various community areas in Mablethorpe, such as the Community Hall, library and leisure centre.
Because these events vary in location, we will let you know of our upcoming events below including their location, dates and times.
Mablethorpe Street Art Wall
Our Placetalk team were at the So Festival in Mablethorpe on Sunday 16th June 2024 and invited members of the community to come along and to take part in creating a large-scale graffiti art piece using spray paints. This was created with help from the street art professionals at iMAGESKOOL who we jointly hosted this with.
This Street Art wall is proudly on display at its first home in Lincolnshire Libraries in Mablethorpe for all to see, so why not pop over to take a look.
The slider below shows the wall before and after so you can see what a wonderful job all the community did in creating this.
